Agora association students hosted French MP Jean Lassalle in the Auditorium on the Lille campus on Thursday 2 December.

A great speaker and highly passionate about politics, Jean Lassalle replied frankly to EDHEC students’ questions about his bid for the French presidency in 2022, his career and his project for French rural areas.

Before becoming an MP, Jean Lassalle was initially a shepherd, then a business owner, mayor and regional councillor.

For Lassalle, ‘politics is an ideal’ that we need to strive towards. In his view, ‘today’s politicians do not represent the young enough’.

In answer to questions regarding the cleavage between big cities and rural areas, Jean Lassalle presented his ‘Campaign for rural France: a major national cause’, that he plans to implement if elected president.

Jean Lassalle explained that inequalities between big cities and rural areas are too great, despite the latter accounting for 80% of French territory.

In conclusion, Jean Lassalle offered students a word of enthusiastic advice:  ‘Join together and never let yourself get diverted from what you believe in.’
