EDHEC-Risk Climate Impact Institute

EDHEC-Risk Climate Impact Institute’s mission is to help private and public decision-makers manage climate-related financial risks and make the best use of the financial tools available to transition to low-emission and climate-resilient economies. Our key ambition is to become a leading academic reference point for long-term investors, helping them to manage the asset-pricing implications of climate change as well as mitigation and adaptation efforts.

Through its two long-term research programmes, the Institute aims to measure the impact of climate change on asset pricing and investment management, while also exploring tools and policies to maximise the positive contribution of finance to the fight against climate change and its consequences. The Institute is at the forefront of developing sophisticated climate scenario analysis tools, particularly in applying probabilities to enhance their usefulness for financial decision-makers.

EDHEC Infrastructure & Private Assets Research Institute

EDHEC Infrastructure & Private Assets Research Institute is at the heart of EDHEC Business School's strategic initiative to bridge the gap between academic excellence and real-world impact in climate finance. Recognising the critical intersection of infrastructure investment and climate change, the Institute leverages the largest global database in the world on infrastructure exposure to climate risk and the impact of climate risk on infrastructure. The fight against climate change is a question of having the right data and knowing how to use it.

Climate risk is pivotal for infrastructure investors due to its profound potential impact on asset viability and financial returns. The Institute’s research focuses on estimating the exposure of infrastructure assets to climate risks (carbon emissions and physical risks) as well as the valuation of these risks in different climate scenarios and the estimation of “extreme climate value”. The research also delves into the alignment and resilience of infrastructure assets given the technological choices available today and tomorrow.

Scientific Portfolio, an EDHEC venture

Scientific Portfolio (an EDHEC Venture), the new FinTech venture originated from EDHEC Business School’s applied research ecosystem, develops portfolio analysis tools and metrics to help investors integrate financial and non-financial information into portfolio management. Scientific Portfolio proudly carries EDHEC's impactful academic heritage and aspires to provide investors with the technology they need to independently analyse and construct equity portfolios from both a financial and extra-financial perspective.

Climate finance research at Scientific Portfolio focuses on two research priorities. The first is to identify the most effective strategies and levers for maximising an asset owner's contribution to climate change mitigation – e.g., which exclusion screens are the most consistent, how to allocate capital between and within sectors, for which type of company is engagement a priority, and to measure this contribution over time. The second priority is to quantify a portfolio's exposure to climate risks, estimate losses associated with different climate scenarios, and finally develop optimisation methods to manage these risks. These two priorities correspond to the double materiality approach promoted by Scientific Portfolio.
