Stepping into the professional world requires preparation, confidence, and a deep understanding of recruitment processes. At EDHEC Business School, the Assessment Centre—a key element of the Career Booster programme—offers students an immersive experience that mirrors real-world hiring practices.

During the first semester of the 2024–2025 academic year, EDHEC’s Career Centre, ranked #1 in France (FT MiM 2024), organised this day for students across Business Management, Data Science & AI for Business, and Finance tracks. Students engaged in case studies, group exercises, and individual interviews with industry professionals. The goal? To equip them with the skills, insights, and confidence needed to secure internships and jobs.

A Real-World Recruitment Simulation

The Assessment Centre is designed to replicate actual hiring processes, placing students in situations they will soon encounter when applying for positions. From tackling complex business cases to collaborating in high-stakes group exercises, each session challenges students to think critically, present their ideas effectively, and navigate professional discussions with confidence.

Inside the Experience

Ruchiro Sahu, currently pursuing the Master in Management – Business Management track, described the day as an invaluable learning opportunity:

The environment was professional yet supportive, giving me a real sense of what to expect in future job interviews.

His experience included a one-on-one interview and a group discussion exercise, both of which allowed him to reflect on his approach and gain constructive feedback:

The immediate feedback was particularly valuable—it helped me recognise my strengths and areas where I can improve. It felt like a real-world recruitment process, but in a setting where learning was the priority.

For Gregorio Bini, from the Master in Management - Finance track, the day was divided into two key moments: a morning case presentation and an afternoon group exercise. The case presentation, focused on Airbus, required students to analyse the company’s business model and present findings to a recruiter in a short time frame.

Managing time effectively was a challenge, but that’s exactly why it was such a valuable exercise. It taught me to prioritise, focus, and structure my thoughts quickly—skills that are essential for real interviews.

The group exercise further tested students’ ability to collaborate and negotiate. Working in small teams, students took on executive roles to debate a strategic decision for Airbus, with recruiters assessing their communication, adaptability, and teamwork skills.

One of the biggest takeaways was realising that recruiters aren’t just evaluating individual performance but also how well we interact as a team. It’s not just about having the best idea—it’s about how you present, defend, and adapt your perspective.

What Makes the Assessment Centre So Impactful?

Unlike traditional interview training, this event provides direct exposure to realistic hiring scenarios, allowing students to:

  • 🗹 Experience the dynamics of professional selection processes firsthand
  • 🗹 Receive personalised feedback from industry professionals
  • 🗹 Improve time management, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • 🗹 Gain insights on how to position themselves effectively in applications and interviews

For Gregorio, one of the most eye-opening aspects was how small adjustments in approach could make a big difference:

The feedback helped me identify key strengths in my profile that I hadn’t fully considered before. Learning how to highlight these in future interviews will be a game-changer.

Ruchiro echoed the sentiment:

This experience was more than just practice—it gave me clarity and confidence for my career path.

Preparing Students for What Comes Next

The Assessment Centre is more than just an exercise; it’s a gateway to professional success. By placing students in realistic, high-pressure recruitment settings, EDHEC ensures they graduate not only with academic excellence but also with the practical skills and confidence to thrive in their careers.

With thousands of students participating each year, the Career Centre’s commitment to bridging the gap between education and employment continues to be a defining feature of the EDHEC experience.

As students step out of the Assessment Centre and into the global job market, they do so with an edge—ready to tackle challenges, seize opportunities, and make an impact.
