EDHEC Climate Institute

EDHEC Climate Institute builds on the rich and long-term expertise of EDHEC and its eco-system to empower businesses, policymakers, and communities on the broad spectrum of climate change-related challenges

EDHEC Business School has been recognised for over 20 years for its expertise in finance. As part of its Generations 2050 strategic plan, which places climate finance at the heart of its mission, EDHEC Business School is delighted to announce the consolidation of its climate-related research activities into a unified entity: the EDHEC Climate Institute (ECI).

This evolution marks a significant step in expanding the School’s capacity to tackle the critical challenges posed by climate change and to support the transition to a low-carbon economy.

Know everything about EDHEC Climate Institute

« Following in the footsteps of EDHEC-Risk Institute and EDHEC-Risk Climate Impact Institute, the newly established EDHEC Climate Institute is dedicated to addressing the broad spectrum of climate change-related challenges.

Our commitment is to provide society with transparent, evidence-based insights that empower businesses, policymakers, and communities to take informed and effective action. By focusing on scientific solutions rather than ideological debates, we can bring together diverse stakeholders—governments, corporations, investors, and the public—around a shared goal: building a more resilient and sustainable future for all. »

A REINFORCED RESEARCH ECOSYSTEM TO ACCELERATE CLIMATE FINANCE

Building on the expertise of the EDHEC-Risk Climate Impact Institute, the Green Infra team of EDHEC Infrastructure & Private Assets Research Institute, and specialists of Scientific Portfolio (and EDHEC Venture), the mission of the EDHEC Climate Institute is to support private and public decision-makers manage climate-related financial risks and make the most of financial tools to support the transition to a low-emission economy that is more resilient to climate change.

Building on a strong track record as an independent and critical reference for long-term investors, ECI provides expertise to help them understand and manage the financial implications of climate change on asset prices, investment management, and climate action policies.

The institute has also developed an expertise in physical risks, developing proprietary research frameworks and innovative approaches. It conducts advanced research on climate transition risks, with a focus on supply chain emissions (Scope 3), consumer choices, and emerging technologies.

A RESEARCH AGENDA BUILT ON 3 PILLARS

The EDHEC Climate Institute focuses on three primary areas, each addressing critical challenges related to climate change and its financial and economic implications:

Financial Value of Climate Risk

Developing robust methodologies to measure the financial impact of climate risks and to integrate them into investment strategies.

One of the flagship projects in this area is Climate Technology (C-Tech). With infrastructure at the core of both the climate crisis and the transition, C-Tech tackles transition and physical risks through InfraTech 2050, the world’s largest database on infrastructure decarbonisation and resilience. This resource provides evidence-based solutions for reducing emissions and adapting to climate hazards across 101 infrastructure subclasses.

Another key area relates to climate scenarios, specifically complementing existing benchmark climate scenarios with probabilistic information and enhancing their sectoral and regional granularity.

Research Beyond Climate Finance

Expanding climate-related research beyond financial applications.

The institute focuses on biodiversity and the innovative assessment of extreme weather events. ECI collaborates with technology leaders in AI, meteorology, and geospatial analysis to develop advanced wildfire and flood risk alert systems. These solutions are increasingly critical as climate change amplifies the frequency and severity of extreme weather events.

Climate Regulation & Policies

Analysing the evolving regulatory landscape, ECI assesses climate policies' impact on industries and economies to help financial and public actors anticipate and adapt to new frameworks.

A KEY PLAYER IN GLOBAL CLIMATE DISCUSSIONS

ECI is proud to partner with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the EU Commission during the One Ocean UN Summit, as part of a joint conference during the "Adaptation Days," taking place on June 5&6 on the EDHEC Business School Campus in Nice. Focused on financing climate adaptation, with a special emphasis on coastal resilience, this event aligns with ECI’s mission to drive research-backed solutions for infrastructure adaptation. ECI will contribute expertise on climate ratings for coastal infrastructure, highlighting risks and opportunities for adaptation investment.

Collaboration is at the core of ECI’s mission. Through partnerships with academic institutions, businesses, and financial players, ECI aims to drive innovation and maximize research impact via open-access data and publications.

With the EDHEC Climate Institute, EDHEC Business School reaffirms its ambition to produce research with real-world impact—helping financial and public actors make informed, effective decisions in the face of climate challenges.
