From Paris to Berkeley: An International and Human Journey with EDHEC’s Global Master in Management
In a competitive world where global perspectives and innovation are key to success, the Global Master in Management - GETT track at EDHEC Business School stands out as an unparalleled choice for students seeking academic excellence, international exposure and personalised learning. Perline Hochart, a graduate of the class of 2024, shares her unique experiences, academic discoveries, and the lasting impact the programme has had on her career aspirations.
What motivated you to choose the Global Master in Management - GETT track?
After completing my preparatory classes, I initially thought I would join an engineering school. But after three years, I realised those programmes weren’t the right fit for me. I was looking for a broader perspective, one that would allow me to explore the bigger picture and connect different disciplines. During my pre-master, I discovered EDHEC and its ecosystem, which led me to choose the Global Master in Management - GETT track. I was drawn to the programme's international focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, alongside its prestigious partnerships with SKK GSB in Seoul and UC Berkeley Haas Business School in the USA.
How did the international aspect of the Global Master in Management - GETT track appeal to you?
The international dimension of Global Master in Management - GETT was a decisive factor in my choice. The partnership with UC Berkeley Haas Business School immediately caught my attention, and the destination of Seoul also offered the opportunity to explore a new culture. I thrive on exploring the unknown, and the programme blends prestigious institutions with opportunities for discovering new horizons.
Academically, what stood out to you at each institution?
The three prestigious institutions in the Global Master in Management - GETT programme provided diverse and enriching academic experiences:
• At EDHEC, I was particularly impressed by the quality of the teaching staff. Coming from a scientific background, this was a completely new environment for me. The Korean course in Paris also prepared students well for their immersion in Seoul, and the "Managing Human Capital" class was one of the most interesting.
• At SKK GSB, some courses stood out despite the language challenges, particularly a crypto-economics course taught by an industry professional, which brought a concrete and interactive perspective.
• UC Berkeley Haas was the pinnacle of my journey. The unique environment at Berkeley, the quality of the courses, and the cultural diversity were exceptional. The exchange of ideas and diverse perspectives had a profound influence on my experience.
Which courses or professors particularly influenced your career goals?
A cornerstone of my education was the "Climate Change and Business Strategy" course at UC Berkeley Haas, which remains one of the most useful and relevant courses I’ve ever taken. The negotiation course allowed me to apply real-life cases, take on various roles, and deeply enrich my experience. The "Product Management" course further introduced me to a role that is both strategic and fascinating. In parallel, I broadened my learning by taking a variety of courses, including intensive Italian, quantum physics, and even a neuroscience course, which helped expand my horizons and fuel my curiosity.
How has your experience within the Global Master in Management - GETT track influenced your career aspirations?
The Global Master in Management - GETT journey has been a real revelation for my career. I initially considered consulting, but my internship at SUEZ revealed that a highly corporate environment did not align with my sense of fulfilment. I then joined the French Foreign Legion for the second part of the professional immersion year, an intense experience that helped me better understand myself. I emerged stronger, more self-aware, and ready to tackle any challenge.
This period of reflection confirmed my interest in entrepreneurship, a path I want to pursue further after Berkeley. The Californian experience inspired me to view my career as an adventure, with a tangible impact on the world. Currently, I’m working in San Francisco with Komodo Health, but my long-term goal is to launch my own project.
