In this collective column published on 13 January 2023 in L'Opinion, Daniel Haguet, Associate Professor at EDHEC, and his co-authors detail: "The issuers seem to be on the wrong track and not to have taken the pulse of a society in the throes of a citizen's explosion. This is a surprising situation for players whose power owes much to their ability to adapt. How can we ignore the changes in political expectations and modes of expression? Shareholders are above all citizens! Like all citizens, they are not content to simply observe and monitor, but they demand a greater say in decision-making. The hybrid AGM meets this demand: it is neither a gadget nor a constraint. It is the result of a will and an adaptation to the transformations of the ways of life and production. Shareholder engagement should be a priority for responsible listed companies. Let's strengthen the affectio societatis of shareholders! If they are invited to have a say in the decision-making process, regardless of their location at the time of the general meeting, they will develop a real sense of belonging. France already has enough problems financing its economy to allow itself to neglect the players who devote time and capital to it."
